Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 230, pseudogene (**RNU6-230P**) is a pseudogene derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family, which plays an essential role in pre-mRNA splicing as part of the spliceosome[3]. Unlike its parent gene, RNU6-230P does not encode a functional RNA product and is generally considered nonfunctional in terms of direct biological processes. Pseudogenes such as RNU6-230P may sometimes have regulatory effects through competitive binding of microRNAs (as “ceRNAs”), but there is currently no direct evidence indicating a functional or disease-related role for RNU6-230P specifically[4]. Pseudogenes are typically not considered therapeutic targets, and RNU6-230P is not currently associated with any pharmacological interventions or established use as a biomarker. Misspelling or confusion with the active U6 snRNA molecule is possible, and care should be taken to distinguish functional snRNAs from pseudogene loci.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable (no known drugs target this pseudogene)

03

Biological functions

No known direct biological function (as a pseudogene)Parental gene (U6 snRNA) is critical for splicing, but this pseudogene is not functional in splicingSome pseudogenes can act as microRNA sponges or ceRNAs (competing endogenous RNAs), but specific evidence for RNU6-230P is lacking
04

Disease associations

No direct disease role established for RNU6-230PPseudogenes as a class have been implicated in cancer and other diseases, but not specifically this locus
