RNU6-238P is a pseudogene derived from the gene encoding U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA), one of the components critical for the splicing process within the spliceosome of eukaryotic cells[3][4][5]. Pseudogenes such as RNU6-238P arise through genomic duplication or retrotransposition events and are characterized by sequence similarity to functional snRNA genes but typically lack the regulatory elements, expression, or structural integrity to function as active, transcribed RNAs[4][5]. The functional U6 snRNA is essential for pre-mRNA splicing; however, processed pseudogenes like RNU6-238P are generally considered non-functional, do not participate in splicing, and are not involved in disease causation or pharmacological modulation[4][5]. They are useful as markers of retrotranspositional activity and genome evolution but do not encode protein or functional RNA and are not targets for drug binding or clinical intervention[4][5].
