Overview

RNU6-247P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 247, pseudogene) is a non-functional, non-coding RNA pseudogene found in the human genome. It is a genomic sequence similar to that of U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA), which is a critical component of the spliceosome involved in the splicing of pre-mRNA[1][7]. However, as a pseudogene, RNU6-247P does not produce a functional RNA product and lacks known biological or therapeutic relevance[7][4]. Such pseudogenes typically arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition, accumulate disabling mutations, and are generally not transcribed or are non-functional if transcribed[4]. "RNU6" refers to the U6 small nuclear RNA family, which are highly conserved elements essential for RNA splicing, but pseudogenes like RNU6-247P represent evolutionary remnants without current biological function[1][5][7].
