Overview

RNU6-253P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 253, pseudogene) is a pseudogene in the human genome related to the gene encoding U6 small nuclear RNA, a component of the spliceosomal snRNP complex. The U6 snRNA gene plays an essential role in the removal of introns from pre-mRNA during splicing, but the RNU6-253P is classified as a pseudogene, meaning it is a non-functional copy and is not believed to have any protein-coding or regulatory activity[3][5]. Pseudogenes such as RNU6-253P may arise through gene duplication or retrotransposition and are generally transcriptionally inactive or have no biological function[4]. There is no evidence that RNU6-253P is expressed or that it has a functional role in human biology or disease. It is not considered a therapeutic target, nor are there drugs or biomarkers associated with it[5][6].

Biological functions

Other (typically considered non-functional, as pseudogenes are generally not transcribed or translated into active products)
03

Disease associations

Other (no direct disease associations for RNU6-253P; in general, most snRNA pseudogenes such as this are not functionally implicated in disease)
