Target intelligence / Profile preview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 258, pseudogene (RNU6-258P)

Target
RNU6-258P
Molecular classification
Small nuclear RNA (snRNA) pseudogene, Non-coding RNA pseudogene, Pseudogene of U6 small nuclear RNA family
01

Overview

RNU6-258P is annotated in the human genome as a pseudogene of the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) family. U6 snRNA is normally a key part of the spliceosome, an RNA-protein complex that catalyzes removal of introns from pre-mRNA during splicing. In contrast, pseudogenes such as RNU6-258P result from retrotransposition or genomic duplication events and lack protein-coding or functional regulatory capacity. They may be transcribed but are not assembled into functional spliceosomes, nor do they play established roles in cell regulation or disease. Pseudogenes of U6 are widespread in vertebrate genomes and mark evolutionary activity around RNA processing loci, but have no known biological or clinical relevance as targets for drug therapy or molecular diagnostics. In summary: RNU6-258P is a pseudogene, not a drug target or receptor. It is not associated with classical signal transduction, disease, biomarker use, or therapeutic safety considerations. Entries for drugs, mechanism of action, and disease role should remain null; the entry is best classified for genomic annotation, not for drug discovery or biomedical targeting.
