Overview

RNU6-293P is a *pseudogene* version of the U6 small nuclear RNA gene. The canonical U6 snRNA is a highly conserved non-coding RNA involved in the spliceosome machinery that excises introns from pre-mRNA in eukaryotic cells[1][2]. U6 snRNA is evolutionarily crucial and almost universally present in multiple copies and pseudogenes in vertebrate genomes[2]. Pseudogenes like RNU6-293P are non-functional, do not produce a mature snRNA, and do **not participate in splicing** or other cellular activities. They have no recognized biological, disease, or therapeutic roles; nor do they interact with drugs or serve as biomarkers[2]. In contrast, the functional U6 snRNA and its gene copies (e.g., RNU6-1, RNU6-2) are widely used as endogenous controls in molecular biology assays due to their stable and ubiquitous expression[3].

02

Mechanism of action

None (No mechanism; pseudogene is non-functional[2])

03

Biological functions

None (pseudogenes generally do not have known biological functions; U6 snRNA pseudogenes do not participate in splicing or other cellular processes[2])
04

Disease associations

None (No established disease involvement for RNU6-293P; functional U6 snRNA is essential for pre-mRNA splicing, but pseudogenes are not implicated in disease[2])
05

Safety considerations

None (Non-functional; no therapeutic relevance or safety implications)
06

Interacting drugs

None (No drugs are known to target snRNA pseudogenes[2])
07

Biomarkers

None (RNU6-293P is not used as a biomarker. U6 snRNA [not pseudogenes] is commonly used as a reference/control in gene expression assays[3])
