Overview

RNU6-302P is a member of the pseudogene family derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene. U6 snRNA is a crucial RNA component of the spliceosome complex in eukaryotes, responsible for catalyzing the removal of introns from pre-mRNA during splicing. However, RNU6-302P itself is a pseudogene, meaning it is a non-functional, typically non-coding segment of DNA that resembles the functional U6 snRNA gene but lacks the ability to produce the mature, functional U6 snRNA molecule. Genomes, including the human genome, contain many U6 pseudogenes, which may arise through gene duplication, retrotransposition, or other mechanisms. While some pseudogenes can have regulatory functions through mechanisms such as miRNA sponging or gene conversion, there is no evidence that RNU6-302P functions in these ways. The RNU6-302P gene is expressed in several tissues, including primordial germ cells in gonad, adenohypophysis, and blood, but there is no evidence for a functional biological or pathological role or for its use as a therapeutic drug target. It is not considered a therapeutic target, and there are no known drugs, disease associations, or safety concerns relating to RNU6-302P.
