RNU6-31P is a human pseudogene—an inactive gene copy—derived from the functional U6 small nuclear RNA gene. The U6 snRNA is a highly conserved, non-coding RNA that is an essential component of the spliceosome, responsible for catalyzing the excision of introns from pre-mRNA in eukaryotes[3][4][5]. U6 snRNA itself interacts with other spliceosomal snRNAs and proteins to assemble a functional RNA-protein complex; however, RNU6-31P does not produce functional RNA and is not involved in splicing or any other biological pathway[1][3]. No evidence supports molecular functions, biological processes, or disease associations for this pseudogene. Pseudogenes like RNU6-31P are prevalent in vertebrate genomes and reflect evolutionary conservation and gene duplication events, but they do not play functional roles.
