Overview

**RNA, U6 small nuclear 316, pseudogene (RNU6-316P)** is a *human pseudogene* corresponding to the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family[2]. U6 snRNAs are essential components of the spliceosome, the machinery responsible for removing introns from pre-mRNA during mRNA maturation[3][1]. However, **RNU6-316P** is a *processed pseudogene*: it does not encode a functional U6 snRNA but instead is an inactive genomic sequence derived from retrotransposition events involving U6 snRNA[5]. Such pseudogenes usually lack protein-coding ability and canonical biological or pharmacological function, but they can serve as genomic markers for studying retrotransposon activity and genome evolution[5]. There are many similar U6 snRNA pseudogenes in the human genome, reflecting the importance of the functional parent gene and the frequent occurrence of these events during evolution[5]. RNU6-316P is not a therapeutic target, is not involved in any known drug interactions, and has no documented physiological or pathological role.
