RNU6-34P is annotated as a small nuclear RNA pseudogene found in the human genome[1][6]. Pseudogenes are generally non-functional DNA segments that resemble functional genes but lack coding potential due to mutations or truncations. The true U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) is a core component of the spliceosome, a complex responsible for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotes[3][7]. However, RNU6-34P is not believed to encode a functional RNA or to participate directly in splicing or other biological activities. Genomic studies catalog many such U6-derived pseudogenes, reflecting evolutionary gene duplication events, but these pseudogenes are not considered functional or relevant as therapeutic targets[7].
