The true U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) is a core component of the spliceosome, a complex responsible for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotes[3][7]. However, RNU6-34P is not believed to encode a functional RNA or to participate directly in splicing or other biological activities. Genomic studies catalog many such U6-derived pseudogenes, reflecting evolutionary gene duplication events, but these pseudogenes are not considered functional or relevant as therapeutic targets[7].
