Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 354, pseudogene (RNU6-354P) is a processed genomic pseudogene in human genome, related in sequence to the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene but inactivated by mutations or genomic rearrangements such that it does not produce functional RNA or protein. U6 snRNA itself plays an essential role in the spliceosome, which is responsible for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotes, but pseudogenes like RNU6-354P are generally transcriptionally silent or may produce non-functional transcripts. While some pseudogenes may participate in gene regulation or disease by acting as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), there is no evidence that RNU6-354P is functional or relevant as a therapeutic target or biomarker[1][2][3].

Biological functions

Genomic pseudogenes generally do not have an active biological function, but transcripts from some pseudogenes can compete endogenously with their parent genes for microRNA binding or regulate gene expression by acting as decoys, ceRNAs, or antisense RNAs in rare cases[2].
03

Disease associations

No direct disease role documented for RNU6-354P itself. However, some pseudogene transcripts have been implicated in cancer and other diseases via regulatory mechanisms, though this has not been specifically shown for RNU6-354P[2].
