Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 409, pseudogene (RNU6-409P) is a human genomic locus classified as a pseudogene of the U6 small nuclear RNA (U6 snRNA) gene family[4]. The U6 snRNA itself is an essential, highly conserved small nuclear RNA involved as a component of the spliceosome, catalyzing the removal of introns from pre-mRNA in the nucleus of eukaryotic cells[1][3]. However, the suffix “pseudogene” indicates that the specific RNU6-409P locus is a non-functional copy—it is not transcribed into a functional RNA product and is not involved in splicing or other biological processes. Large numbers of U6 pseudogene loci exist in the human genome as a result of retrotransposition or genomic duplication events, none of which have been shown to encode functional spliceosomal RNAs or protein products[3][5]. There is no evidence linking RNU6-409P to any disease, drug interaction, or direct biological function. Pseudogenes such as RNU6-409P are typically considered genomic fossils with no known physiological or pathological role.
