Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 420, pseudogene (RNU6-420P) is a member of a large family of U6 small nuclear RNA pseudogenes in the human genome. The parental U6 small nuclear RNA (U6 snRNA) is an essential component of the major spliceosome, a large ribonucleoprotein complex responsible for removing introns from pre-mRNA via splicing, which is crucial for eukaryotic gene expression[1][3]. However, RNU6-420P is a pseudogene; these are typically non-functional genomic loci derived from functional genes that have accumulated disabling mutations[2]. Pseudogenes, including many derived from U6 snRNA, are present throughout the genome and usually do not encode functional RNA or protein. While some pseudogenes can have regulatory functions at the RNA level (such as acting as microRNA decoys or antisense RNAs), there is no direct evidence that RNU6-420P itself plays such a role[2]. RNU6-420P is not considered a therapeutic target, enzyme, receptor, or biomarker, nor is it associated with disease or drug interactions. Its presence reflects the evolutionary history and redundancy of the U6 snRNA gene family in vertebrates[1][2][3].
