Overview

RNU6-426P, formally named "RNA, U6 small nuclear 426, pseudogene," is a processed pseudogene copy of the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) locus[2][3]. While the functional U6 snRNA is an essential, highly conserved non-coding RNA required for mRNA splicing as part of the spliceosome complex[1][3], pseudogenes such as RNU6-426P lack protein-coding potential and are typically non-functional genomic relics generated through mechanisms like retrotransposition[2]. These pseudogenes are characterized by sequence similarity to the parent U6 snRNA gene but generally lack regulatory elements and/or are subject to disablement mutations[2]. There is no evidence or scientific consensus designating RNU6-426P as a therapeutic target, nor does it have established roles in disease, drug interactions, or biomarker utility. The presence of such pseudogenes in the genome reflects the evolutionary dynamics of transposable elements and small RNA gene families but does not impart functional biological activity[2][3].
