RNA, U6 small nuclear 44, pseudogene (RNU6-44P)

Target
RNU6-44P
Molecular classification
Other, Pseudogene (noncoding RNA pseudogene)
01

Overview

RNU6-44P is a **pseudogene** belonging to the *U6 small nuclear RNA* (snRNA) family. U6 snRNAs are highly conserved uridine-rich noncoding RNAs that form an essential component of the spliceosome, participating in pre-mRNA splicing within eukaryotic nuclei[1][3]. Unlike active U6 snRNA genes, **RNU6-44P** does **not** produce a functional RNA and is annotated as a **pseudogene**, likely resulting from retrotransposition events involving LINE-1 (L1) elements[5]. Such U6 snRNA pseudogenes are scattered throughout the genome and serve as historical markers of retrotransposition, rather than playing roles in cell biology or disease mechanisms[3][5]. RNU6-44P is located on chromosome 11 (chr11:112,352,556-112,352,662, hg38)[2]. There is no evidence that this pseudogene has any direct clinical, diagnostic, or therapeutic relevance.

02

Mechanism of action

None (not targeted by drugs)

03

Biological functions

None (as a pseudogene, it does not have a known biological function; functional U6 snRNA is involved in RNA splicing, but pseudogenes generally lack function)
04

Disease associations

Other (U6 snRNA pseudogenes are considered markers of retrotransposition activity and genome evolution, but are not directly implicated in specific diseases)
