Overview

RNU6-448P is a member of the large family of U6 small nuclear RNA pseudogenes present in the human genome[2][5]. Unlike the canonical U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA), which serves as an essential RNA component of the spliceosome and is required for pre-mRNA splicing[1][3], RNU6-448P is classified as a processed pseudogene[2][5]. This means it has sequence similarity to the functional U6 snRNA gene but is not itself transcribed into a functional, stable snRNA or incorporated into spliceosomal small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (snRNP) complexes. Such pseudogenes are thought to originate by retrotransposition events, primarily mediated by LINE-1 elements[5]. They are abundant throughout vertebrate genomes and lack intrinsic biological activity; they do not encode proteins, nor are they known to be directly involved in clinical disease, response to therapy, or serve as therapeutic targets[2][5]. RNU6-448P is not a functional drug target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor. Its only significance is in genomics, as an evolutionary marker of retrotransposition history and genome architecture, rather than as a therapeutic or diagnostic molecule[5]. No drugs interact with this pseudogene, there are no known safety concerns, and it is not used as a biomarker. If you are searching for a drug target or biologically active RNA, refer to **U6 small nuclear RNA** (not its pseudogenes), which is a vital splicing factor[1][3].
