Overview

The RNA, U6 small nuclear 450, pseudogene (RNU6-450P) is a genomic pseudogene copy of the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family[1][7]. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences resembling functional genes but are typically non-functional due to accumulated mutations or lack of regulatory elements needed for expression[7]. U6 snRNA is a highly conserved component of the spliceosome involved in pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotic nuclei[5]. RNU6-450P, as a pseudogene, does not code for a functional small nuclear RNA and is not involved in splicing or any known biological process[1][7]. Pseudogenes like RNU6-450P can arise from retrotransposition mediated by LINE-1 elements or gene duplication events, resulting in processed copies scattered throughout the genome[7]. While there is emerging interest in potential regulatory roles of some pseudogene transcripts (as competing endogenous RNAs or antisense RNAs), there is no evidence that RNU6-450P is functional or implicated in pathology or therapeutic targeting[1][7][6]. Notes: - RNU6-450P is not a therapeutic target and has no known biological or clinical function. - Its main use is in genomic studies as a marker of retrotransposition activity, not as a target molecule[7]. - There are no drugs, mechanisms, or biomarkers associated with this pseudogene. If more details on canonical small nuclear RNA U6 functions are needed, see U6 snRNA (not pseudogene) for spliceosome-related activities[5].
