Overview

RNU6-454P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 454, pseudogene) is a pseudogene corresponding to U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA), a highly conserved non-coding RNA component involved in the splicing of precursor mRNA in eukaryotes. Numerous pseudogenes for U6 snRNA exist in the human genome, originating from retrotransposition events involving LINE-1 and other retroelements. These pseudogenes are usually non-functional, do not produce active snRNAs, and are generally not involved in canonical RNA splicing or any recognized biological process. There are occasional reports that some pseudogenes may exert regulatory effects at the DNA or RNA level, but there is no specific evidence of such a role for RNU6-454P. This locus is not considered a therapeutic target, nor is it known to interact with drugs, serve as a biomarker, or be involved in disease mechanisms. It is most accurately classified as a genomic pseudogene of a key RNA involved in splicing machinery, reflecting the dynamic history of retrotransposition and genomic evolution in mammals.
