Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 478, pseudogene (RNU6-478P) is a pseudogene derived from the highly conserved U6 small nuclear RNA gene, typically found in multiple copies and as pseudogenes throughout vertebrate genomes. The canonical functional U6 snRNA encodes a non-coding RNA that is a core component of the spliceosome, essential for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotes. However, RNU6-478P is a pseudogene, meaning it carries sequence similarity to U6 snRNA but is typically nonfunctional due to accumulated mutations and loss of regulatory elements. Pseudogenes like RNU6-478P do not produce functional proteins or RNAs under normal circumstances and are not considered direct drug targets. Although recent studies show some pseudogenes can act as regulatory RNAs, compete with parent gene transcription, or influence disease progression in rare cases, there is no evidence that RNU6-478P itself contributes directly to biological regulation, disease, or therapeutic pathways. In summary, RNU6-478P is a non-coding RNA pseudogene and is not a recognized therapeutic target or functional biomarker in clinical or drug development contexts.
