RNU6-488P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 488, pseudogene) is a human pseudogene derived from the U6 family of small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs)[1][3][5][7][9]. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are nonfunctional; they do not encode functional proteins or RNAs under normal biological conditions[10]. The original U6 snRNA is a core component of the spliceosome complex, involved in pre-mRNA splicing in the cell nucleus, but pseudogenes like RNU6-488P are generally considered evolutionary relics without biological function[1][3][10]. There is no evidence from current annotation or functional studies that RNU6-488P plays any physiological or pathological role, acts as a therapeutic target, or is involved in disease processes. It has no known interacting drugs, biomarker roles, or safety considerations as a therapeutic target.
