Target
RNU6-499P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Non-coding RNA (derived from small nuclear RNA)
01

Overview

RNU6-499P is a pseudogene corresponding to U6 small nuclear RNA (U6 snRNA). U6 snRNA is a highly conserved non-coding RNA that functions as a core catalytic component of the spliceosome, the macromolecular complex responsible for the removal of introns from pre-mRNA in eukaryotic cells[1][3]. However, as a pseudogene, RNU6-499P does not encode a functional U6 snRNA and instead represents a transcriptionally inactive or non-functional genomic copy. Pseudogenes like RNU6-499P are generally considered non-functional, but some may be transcribed and could have roles in gene regulation such as acting as decoys for miRNAs or being sources of small RNAs[2]. There is no evidence that RNU6-499P encodes a therapeutic target, has direct biological or disease functions, or interacts with drugs. It is therefore not considered a therapeutic target, and its inclusion as one is likely incorrect.
