RNA, U6 small nuclear 508, pseudogene (RNU6-508P) is a human genomic locus classified as a pseudogene of the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) family[4]. U6 snRNA itself is a highly conserved non-coding RNA that is a component of the spliceosome, the complex responsible for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotic cells[1][3]. However, RNU6-508P, by its classification as a pseudogene, does not encode a functional snRNA; such pseudogenes are typically non-functional genomic sequences derived from duplication or retrotransposition events of functional U6 snRNA genes. There are many U6 snRNA pseudogenes in the human genome, reflecting the essential and conserved nature of U6 snRNA, but these pseudogenes like RNU6-508P are not known to have biological, disease, or drug-targeting roles[3][4].
