Molecular classification

01

Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 513, pseudogene (RNU6-513P) is a non-functional, non-coding genetic element in the human genome that resembles the U6 small nuclear RNA gene. U6 snRNA is a highly conserved small nuclear RNA essential for the activity of the spliceosome, the complex responsible for removing introns from precursor mRNA in eukaryotic cells[1][3][5]. RNU6-513P, however, is a pseudogene version created by retrotransposition or other genomic mechanisms and does not encode a functional RNA or participate in the splicing reaction. While some pseudogenes are transcribed and may produce small RNAs with potential regulatory or epigenetic effects (such as RNA interference or miRNA sponging), there is currently no evidence for direct biological function or disease involvement for RNU6-513P[2][5]. It is cataloged for completeness in genomic annotation but is not considered a protein-coding gene or therapeutic target[4].

02

Mechanism of action

None. No drugs target this molecule or pseudogene directly.

03

Biological functions

None directly for RNU6-513P. In general, pseudogenes do not encode functional products; however, some pseudogene-derived RNAs may have possible regulatory roles (e.g., acting as microRNA decoys or producing small interfering RNAs), but these functions are not established for RNU6-513P specifically.
04

Disease associations

None established. Although some pseudogenes can participate in regulatory networks or disease processes (e.g., via small RNA production or as competing endogenous RNAs), there is no direct evidence for disease associations specific to RNU6-513P.
05

Safety considerations

None known. As a pseudogene, RNU6-513P is not a target for therapeutic intervention, so safety/therapeutic concerns do not apply.
