Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 523, pseudogene (RNU6-523P) is a member of the large family of U6 small nuclear RNA pseudogenes in the human genome[5][6]. U6 snRNAs themselves are critical for the spliceosome's function in excising introns from pre-mRNA, and their sequence is highly conserved among eukaryotes due to this essential role[3]. However, pseudogenes like RNU6-523P are non-functional genomic elements that resemble functional U6 snRNA genes but have lost the ability to encode an active RNA molecule. Such pseudogenes arise by genome duplication or retrotransposition but lack regulatory elements, accumulate mutations, or are otherwise not transcribed or processed into functional products[4]. RNU6-523P as a pseudogene does not participate in RNA splicing, is not regarded as a protein or functional RNA, has no known disease associations, and is not a therapeutic or druggable target. If you need structured data or further details about functional U6 snRNA or spliceosome roles, that can be provided, but RNU6-523P itself functions simply as a non-functional genomic relic.
