Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 531, pseudogene (RNU6-531P) is a non-coding RNA pseudogene in humans, belonging to the large family of U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene derivatives. The parental U6 small nuclear RNA is a critical component of the spliceosome complex that catalyzes intron removal from pre-mRNA in eukaryotic cells. However, pseudogenes like RNU6-531P are characterized by sequence similarity to functional snRNA genes but typically lack biological activity due to mutations or absence of required regulatory elements. There is currently no evidence that RNU6-531P is functional, involved in disease, or serves as a therapeutic target. The existence of multiple U6 pseudogenes in the human genome reflects the high evolutionary and functional importance of the U6 snRNA gene for splicing, but most are likely transcriptionally silent or non-functional.
