Overview

RNU6-539P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 539, pseudogene) is a non-coding RNA pseudogene that is related to the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) family[1][2]. U6 snRNA plays a critical role in splicing of pre-mRNA by being a core component of the spliceosomal complex[5]. However, RNU6-539P is classified as a pseudogene, which means it is a genomic copy that resembles the functional U6 snRNA gene but does not produce a functional product[6][7]. Pseudogenes like RNU6-539P arise by gene duplication or retrotransposition and generally lack functional roles in splicing, acting as "genomic fossils" or, occasionally, as regulators of their parental gene via RNA-based mechanisms[6]. There is no evidence that RNU6-539P encodes a protein, functions in RNA processing, or acts as a drug target. Consequently, it is not considered a therapeutic target, biomarker, or gene with well-established biological or disease relevance.
