Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 54, pseudogene (RNU6-54P) is a non-protein-coding pseudogene of the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family[1][8]. As a pseudogene, it does not encode a functional product and, specifically, it is classified as a small nuclear RNA (snRNA) pseudogene, which are generally relics of once-functional genes that have lost their protein-coding ability or biological function through evolution[1][8][4]. U6 snRNA itself is a core component of the spliceosome, involved in pre-mRNA splicing, but pseudogenes such as RNU6-54P do not contribute functional snRNA to this process[1][8][9]. Although some pseudogenes may have regulatory roles, such as acting as decoys for microRNAs or sources of regulatory RNAs, there is currently no evidence that RNU6-54P is a therapeutic target or that it has direct clinical or pathological relevance[4]. Present knowledge considers RNU6-54P a genomic marker with no established protein-coding or direct regulatory function.
