It is an unprocessed, non-protein-coding sequence that is highly homologous to the functional U6 small nuclear RNA gene, which is a core component of the spliceosome and essential for pre-mRNA splicing[1][2][5]. However, RNU6-540P itself does not encode a functional RNA or protein and has not been implicated in any biological process or disease. There is no evidence supporting its role as a therapeutic or biomarker target. Pseudogenes similar to RNU6-540P can sometimes regulate parental gene expression or act as RNA decoys in other contexts, but no such function is described for RNU6-540P specifically at present[1][2][4].
