Overview

RNU6-55P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 55, pseudogene) is a human genomic locus categorized as a *small nuclear RNA pseudogene*. It is derived from U6 snRNA but carries changes preventing it from producing a functional RNA molecule. U6 snRNA is a critical component of the spliceosome, necessary for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotic cells[1][3][4], but the pseudogene (RNU6-55P) does not contribute to these functions. Instead, RNU6-55P is an inactive genomic sequence, likely formed through retrotransposition events involving the U6 snRNA gene and does not participate in the spliceosome or have regulatory or coding function[1][5][6][8]. Pseudogenes of this type are considered genomic fossils and serve primarily as markers of evolutionary processes and retrotransposition activity, without established roles in normal physiology or disease[5]. Summary: RNU6-55P is a noncoding, non-functional pseudogene of the U6 snRNA family. It is not a molecular target, has no therapeutic or biological function, and is not implicated in known diseases or drug responses. Its relevance is primarily as an indicator of past genomic events such as retrotransposition, not as an active participant in cell biology or medicine[5][6][8].
