RNU6-555P
Molecular classification
Other, Pseudogene
01

Overview

RNU6-555P is a human pseudogene related to U6 small nuclear RNA, a component of the spliceosomal complex involved in pre-mRNA splicing[1][3]. While U6 small nuclear RNA itself is biologically critical for spliceosome function and RNA processing, RNU6-555P is a non-protein-coding pseudogene copy. Pseudogenes such as RNU6-555P commonly arise via gene duplication or retrotransposition and typically lack the function of their progenitor gene. In some cases, pseudogenes may have potential regulatory roles such as acting as decoys for microRNAs or modulating the expression of related genes, but no such role has been documented for RNU6-555P[4]. It is not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or recognized therapeutic target.
