Overview

RNU6-578P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 578, pseudogene) is a genomic sequence classified as a pseudogene related to the U6 family of small nuclear RNAs. U6 snRNAs are essential components of the spliceosome, the cellular machinery responsible for pre-mRNA splicing[1][3]; however, pseudogenes like RNU6-578P lack the capability to yield functional RNA products or participate in splicing. Pseudogenes of U6 snRNA arise during evolution through duplication and mutation of genuine U6 snRNA genes, but do not contribute to normal cellular function. No experimental evidence indicates that RNU6-578P is transcribed, translated, or functionally relevant.[2][5] RNU6-578P is not a receptor, enzyme, or druggable target; it is a non-functional, pseudogenic segment related to U6 small nuclear RNA, with no established roles in disease, therapy, or cell biology. Its inclusion as a target is typically an error.[2][5]
