Overview

RNU6-596P is a pseudogene corresponding to the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene family. U6 snRNA is an essential non-coding RNA component of the spliceosome, a complex responsible for intron removal from pre-mRNA in eukaryotes[1][3]. However, RNU6-596P itself is a non-functional derivative and does not produce an active snRNA product. Like many pseudogenes derived from U6 in vertebrate genomes, RNU6-596P retains sequence similarity (including authentic 5'- and 3'-ends of U6 RNA and direct repeats from U6) but has accumulated mutations and structural changes that prevent it from functioning in the spliceosome or any other known biological process[2][4][5]. These U6-derived pseudogenes are common and are considered genomic relics with no established physiological or pathological role. There are no known drugs, biomarkers, or disease associations relevant to this pseudogene, nor are there safety concerns arising from its presence. No evidence suggests it should be considered a therapeutic target or functional biomolecule.
