Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 6, pseudogene (RNU6-6P) is a pseudogene of the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family, located in the nucleus (predicted in nuclear speck)[2][4]. Unlike the functional U6 snRNA, which is an essential non-coding RNA component of the spliceosome complex and critical for pre-mRNA splicing[1], RNU6-6P lacks protein-coding potential and is not functionally active as either a receptor, enzyme, or druggable target. RNU6-6P and related pseudogenes are often detected in genomic studies and sometimes used as reference genes (i.e., normalization controls), but research indicates substantial caveats to this usage, and they are not directly implicated in disease modulation, drug interaction or considered therapeutic targets[7]. Key context: RNU6-6P is not a functional gene but a pseudogene, and is not a valid molecular therapeutic target[4][7]. Functional U6 snRNA (not pseudogene) is highly conserved and central to the spliceosome's activity (pre-mRNA splicing), but this function does not apply to RNU6-6P[1]. There is no evidence supporting disease association, drug interaction, or roles in signaling, cell cycle, or other cellular processes for RNU6-6P. Its use as an endogenous control in qPCR/microRNA studies is discouraged due to unreliability in normalization[7]. Summary: RNU6-6P is a small nuclear RNA pseudogene without established molecular function, disease association, or role as a druggable or therapeutic target. Its presence may be relevant primarily for genomic annotation and sometimes as a reference RNA, but not as a biological or therapeutic target.
