Target intelligence / Profile preview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 600, pseudogene (RNU6-600P)

Target
RNU6-600P
Molecular classification
Other (pseudogene; classified as a noncoding RNA pseudogene)
01

Overview

RNU6-600P is a pseudogene derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene family. True U6 snRNA plays a central part in spliceosome function and pre-mRNA splicing, but RNU6-600P represents a non-functional genomic copy that arises by retrotransposition or duplication events and does not encode a functional snRNA or protein[1][3]. Pseudogenes can occasionally exert regulatory effects on gene expression by acting as competing endogenous RNAs or by generating regulatory molecules (such as siRNAs or lncRNAs)[2], but RNU6-600P itself does not have documented functional or disease associations. It is present in the human genome as a marker of evolutionary molecular events, not as a pharmacological target.

Other names
RNU6-600PRNA, U6 small nuclear 600, pseudogene
02

Biological functions

Other (no confirmed biological function; pseudogenes are generally non-functional remnants of once-functional genes)
03

Disease associations

Other (no established roles in disease for RNU6-600P; pseudogenes in general *can* influence disease via regulatory or competing endogenous RNA mechanisms, but no evidence for this specific gene)
