Overview

RNU6-62P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 62, pseudogene) is a pseudogene related to the U6 small nuclear RNA (U6 snRNA), a non-coding RNA that forms a core part of the spliceosome machinery in eukaryotes[1][3]. The canonical and functional U6 snRNA is a component of U6 snRNP (small nuclear ribonucleoprotein), involved in catalyzing pre-mRNA splicing in the cell nucleus[1][3]. RNU6-62P itself, however, is classified as a pseudogene: it is a non-functional genomic DNA sequence derived from the parent U6 snRNA gene, and is generally not transcribed or expressed as functional RNA. Pseudogenes are common for snRNAs, especially for the highly conserved and abundant U6 type, and do not contribute to active spliceosome function[1]. Because RNU6-62P is a pseudogene and not a protein or functional RNA, it is not considered a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, or involved in signal transduction, nor does it directly participate in biological processes or disease mechanisms. There is no evidence linking RNU6-62P with drug interactions, biomarker use, or therapeutic safety concerns. The accurate canonical target in this gene family is "RNA, U6 small nuclear 1" (RNU6-1) or the functional U6 snRNA, not pseudogenes like RNU6-62P[1][4].
