Overview

RNU6-644P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 644, pseudogene) is a **pseudogene** that is derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family[1]. The canonical, functional U6 small nuclear RNA (U6 snRNA) is a non-coding RNA critical for the spliceosome – the molecular machine responsible for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotic cells[3][5]. However, pseudogenes like RNU6-644P do not encode functional RNA or protein products and are not known to play direct roles in splicing or other cellular processes. There is no evidence supporting a role for RNU6-644P in disease, as a biomarker, or as a drug target. The sequence is annotated as a non-functional RNA and is not considered a therapeutic target[1]. The U6 small nuclear RNA gene family consists of canonical (functional) genes and many processed pseudogenes scattered throughout the genome. The entry RNU6-644P is one such pseudogene and does **not** code for a functional snRNA, which distinguishes it from *U6 snRNA*, an essential spliceosomal component[1][5]. There are no current reports of pseudogenes from this family acting as disease genes, drug targets, or therapeutic molecules. RNU6-644P is therefore considered an *annotated genomic relic* rather than a molecular target[1]. *is_incorrect* is set to true because RNU6-644P is not a valid therapeutic target, nor a functional molecular entity.
