RNU6-648P is a pseudogene derived from the highly conserved U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene, which encodes a component of the spliceosome complex responsible for the excision of introns from pre-mRNA. U6 snRNA is an essential non-coding RNA; however, RNU6-648P is one of many genomic copies that no longer produces functional RNA due to mutations or truncation and lacks a protein product. While some pseudogenes can be transcribed or exert regulatory functions as lncRNAs, there is no evidence that RNU6-648P serves such a function. It is not regarded as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or gene of medical significance. RNU6-648P is part of a large family of U6-related pseudogenes in the human genome, which exist as non-functional backups or evolutionary remnants. Genuine U6 snRNA genes are crucial for RNA splicing, but pseudogenes like RNU6-648P generally do not contribute to this function. Pseudogenes may sometimes regulate gene expression indirectly, but functional evidence is required for each locus; none exists for RNU6-648P. In summary, RNU6-648P is a non-coding, non-functional pseudogene copy of a U6 small nuclear RNA gene, lacking therapeutic, diagnostic, or biomarker significance. It is not a target for drugs, does not have known biological roles, and is typically relevant only in the context of genomic structure and molecular evolution.
