Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 650, pseudogene (RNU6-650P) is a non-coding RNA segment in the human genome classified as a pseudogene derived from U6 snRNA. The functional U6 snRNA is a universally conserved, essential small nuclear RNA component of the spliceosome, involved in catalyzing the excision of introns from pre-mRNA in eukaryotes and forming extensive RNA-protein complexes with other snRNPs for post-transcriptional modification[1][2][3]. Many U6 snRNA pseudogenes, such as RNU6-650P, exist in the genome due to retrotranspositional events or duplication and are not known to produce functional RNA or protein products, nor do they have defined biological or pathological roles[4]. Their presence reflects retrotranspositional activity (e.g., L1/LINE-1) or genomic backup, not molecular function[2][4]. RNU6-650P is a non-functional pseudogene with no active therapeutic, biological, or disease roles; its existence in the genome serves mainly as a molecular remnant and marker of retrotransposition dynamics. The true functional gene, U6 snRNA, is crucial for splicing but is a different entity.
