U6 snRNAs are non-coding RNA molecules that play a crucial role as part of the spliceosome complex, which catalyzes the removal of introns from pre-mRNA during splicing[3][1]. However, *pseudogenes* like RNU6-658P are genomic sequences that resemble functional RNA genes but are typically non-functional due to sequence mutations, truncations, or inability to be properly transcribed or processed[5]. Pseudogenes in the U6 family are numerous in the human genome and have accumulated primarily through retrotransposition mechanisms, particularly involving LINE (long interspersed nuclear element) retroelements[5]. There is currently no evidence that RNU6-658P produces a functional RNA or protein product, nor that it plays a physiological or disease-related role. It is not considered a therapeutic target, does not interact with drugs, and is not used as a biomarker[2][5].
