Overview

RNU6-678P is a processed pseudogene copy of the U6 snRNA gene, which constitutes a small nuclear RNA sequence. Unlike functional U6 snRNA, which is essential in the spliceosome for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotes[1][3], RNU6-678P is a non-functional genomic relic, formed through retrotransposition via LINE-1 and other mechanisms[2]. Pseudogenes like RNU6-678P are not transcribed into functional products nor do they encode for proteins. They serve as genomic markers for studying retrotransposon activity and genome evolution but do not participate in biological processes, regulatory functions, or disease mechanisms[2]. The ubiquitous presence of such pseudogenes reflects evolutionary genome dynamics rather than functional or therapeutic relevance[2][3].
