RNU6-689P, however, is classified as a pseudogene, indicating it does not encode a functional RNA molecule and plays no known direct biological or disease-associated role. The U6 snRNA family is notable for its involvement in the spliceosome catalytic site and evolutionary conservation, but this particular pseudogene is one of many non-functional copies present in vertebrate genomes[3][4][1]. Pseudogenes like RNU6-689P may arise through gene duplication or retrotransposition but lack the ability to produce a functional product; they are not targets for drug development and are not regarded as meaningful molecular targets in pharmacology or experimental medicine[3][4][1].
