Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 698, pseudogene (RNU6-698P) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene[4][3]. U6 snRNA is an essential component of the spliceosome complex, catalyzing the excision of introns from pre-mRNA during splicing in the nucleus[1]. However, RNU6-698P itself is a noncoding, unexpressed copy of U6 snRNA produced by retrotransposition and is presumed to have no functional role as it does not produce a functional RNA or protein[3][4]. There is no evidence it acts as a therapeutic target, is involved in any molecular pathway, interacts with drugs, or serves as a biomarker. Its primary relevance is as a genomic marker of retrotransposition activity, not as a biological or pharmacological target[3][4]. Key clarifications: - This is a pseudogene, not an active gene, protein, or receptor. - It is not considered a therapeutic target. - It is not implicated in disease, biomarker usage, or pharmacology. - Its existence reflects genome evolution and transposon activity rather than biological function in splicing or disease[3][4].
