Overview

RNU6-721P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 721, pseudogene) is a non-functional, processed pseudogene derived from U6 small nuclear RNA. U6 snRNA is a highly conserved component of the spliceosome, which plays a critical role in nuclear RNA splicing in eukaryotes by excising introns from pre-mRNA. The U6 pseudogenes, including RNU6-721P, are prevalent throughout the human genome, having arisen through retrotransposition predominantly mediated by L1 (LINE-1) retrotransposons. These pseudogenes do not encode functional RNA or proteins and do not participate in splicing or other cellular processes; their biological significance lies primarily in marking retrotranspositional activity and contributing to genomic architecture. RNU6-721P is not considered a therapeutic target and has no established roles in disease, pharmacology, or clinical biomarkers.

Other names
RNU6-721PRNA, U6 small nuclear 721, pseudogene
02

Biological functions

Other (no direct biological function; pseudogene counterparts of snRNAs do not contribute to cellular processes; functional U6 snRNA is involved in RNA splicing, but not pseudogenes)
03

Disease associations

Other (no established role; pseudogenes are typically non-functional, but may occasionally serve as markers of genome dynamics or retrotransposition activity)
04

Biomarkers

Other (may serve as a marker in genomic studies of retrotransposition dynamics or LINE activity in the genome, but not as a clinical biomarker)
