Overview

RNU6-737P is a pseudogene that shares sequence similarity with the highly conserved U6 snRNA gene, which encodes one of the core components of the spliceosome involved in the excision of introns from pre-mRNA in eukaryotic nuclei[1][3][5]. Unlike functional U6 snRNAs, which are critical for splicing, pseudogenes such as RNU6-737P generally do not encode a functional RNA and are not known to be expressed or to have a direct biological activity[5][6]. Sequence analysis has revealed that human U6 snRNA pseudogenes show moderate sequence homology—often ~77%—to canonical U6 snRNA, sometimes with rearrangements or duplications[5]. While some pseudogenes in certain contexts can influence gene regulation (such as acting as competitive endogenous RNAs for microRNA binding or generating small interfering RNAs), there is no evidence that RNU6-737P itself plays such a role[4][6]. Its primary relevance is as a genomic artifact, rather than as a functional gene, and it is not considered a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, or biomarker for any disease[2][5][6].
