Overview

RNU6-762P is a pseudogene related to the gene encoding U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA), which is an essential non-coding RNA component of the spliceosome, the large ribonucleoprotein complex responsible for removing introns from pre-mRNA in eukaryotes[1][3]. Pseudogenes such as RNU6-762P retain sequence similarity to the functional snRNA genes but have lost the ability to produce functional RNA due to mutations or truncations[7][6][4]. RNU6-762P itself does not produce a mature snRNA or play a direct biological role; instead, it exists as a non-functional genomic sequence. Pseudogenes of U6 snRNA are common in the vertebrate genome and have sometimes been used as reference sequences in genomic studies[5][4].
