Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 797, pseudogene (RNU6-797P) is a human genomic element that belongs to the set of U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) pseudogenes[1][3]. It is a processed pseudogene, not encoding a functional RNA or protein[3][2]. U6 small nuclear RNA genes, when functional, play a crucial role in the spliceosome machinery for mRNA splicing, but this specific pseudogene is a non-functional remnant generated most likely by retrotransposition mechanisms such as LINE-1 activity[2]. There is no evidence that this pseudogene acts as a therapeutic target or marker, nor that it is directly implicated in disease, drug action, or biomarker strategies. Pseudogenes in general are of evolutionary and genomic interest, sometimes modulating gene expression by acting as miRNA decoys or competing endogenous RNAs, but there are no records of RNU6-797P having such functions[4]. Its primary value currently lies in genome annotation and evolutionary studies rather than experimental therapeutics or diagnostics.
