Overview

RNU6-828P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 828, pseudogene) is a processed pseudogene derived from the highly conserved U6 small nuclear RNA gene, which encodes the U6 component of the spliceosome, a ribonucleoprotein complex essential for splicing of precursor mRNA in eukaryotic nuclei[5][3][1]. The parental U6 snRNA is a critical non-coding RNA for messenger RNA maturation via splicing, but pseudogenes like RNU6-828P are nonfunctional; they are unable to encode functional RNA or protein and are a consequence of retrotransposon activity and genome evolution[5]. These pseudogenes do not participate in cellular pathways, drug interactions, or serve as receptors, enzymes, transcription factors, or other canonical therapeutic targets. They are mainly used as evolutionary or genomic markers without roles in disease biology, pharmacology, or therapy[5][3]. Note: RNU6-828P is often listed in genomic databases as a locus, but as a pseudogene, it is not an active or valid molecular target for therapeutics, diagnostics, or experimental modulation. The genuine target is U6 small nuclear RNA, not its pseudogenes.
