Overview

RNU6-843P is a human pseudogene related to U6 small nuclear RNA. U6 snRNA itself is an essential component of the spliceosome, involved in pre-mRNA splicing, with defined modifications (methylation, pseudouridylation) that stabilize its structure and contribute to splicing catalysis [1][3]. In contrast, RNU6-843P is a non-coding RNA pseudogene, which means it is a DNA sequence similar to functional U6 snRNA genes but is generally considered non-functional—it is not believed to produce a functional RNA or protein. Unlike canonical U6 snRNA, which is highly conserved and active in RNA splicing, pseudogene copies like RNU6-843P typically arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and accumulate mutations that prevent them from participating in normal cellular RNA biology. While some pseudogenes can be transcribed and may play regulatory roles (such as acting as competing endogenous RNA or miRNA sponges in certain cancers) [2][4], there is currently no evidence linking RNU6-843P to any therapeutic targets, disease mechanisms, or drug interactions.
