Overview

RNU6-871P is a pseudogene related to the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene family. U6 snRNA itself is a highly conserved non-coding RNA that forms the RNA component of the U6 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (snRNP), an essential part of the spliceosome complex responsible for splicing pre-mRNA in eukaryotic cells. However, pseudogenes such as RNU6-871P are non-functional genetic sequences that resemble functional U6 snRNA genes but are not transcribed into the functional RNA product or incorporated into the spliceosomal complex. Such pseudogenes are commonly found throughout vertebrate genomes and are considered evolutionary remnants without a direct role in gene regulation, disease, or as drug targets. There are no known small molecules, drugs, or biological targeting agents that interact with RNU6-871P, nor is it used as a biomarker or implicated in disease. Essential context: - U6 pseudogenes are numerous and scattered throughout the genome; they do not encode active splicing RNAs. - Unlike functional U6 snRNA—which is critical for spliceosome-mediated mRNA splicing—RNU6-871P does not produce a transcript with a biological function. - Pseudogenes in other gene families have been implicated as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) or regulatory elements, but there are no published reports of such a role for RNU6 U6 pseudogenes.
