01

Overview

RNU6-904P is a processed pseudogene derived from U6 small nuclear RNA, a core component of the spliceosome involved in pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotes[3]. Pseudogenes like RNU6-904P are typically generated via retrotransposition or duplication of parental snRNA genes, resulting in defective, non-expressing copies scattered in the genome[2][7]. While U6 snRNA itself is critical for splicing, RNU6-904P does not produce a functional RNA or protein and has not been reported to play a role in cellular biology or disease. Most pseudogenes are considered genomic fossils, although some pseudogenes contribute to gene regulation via RNA-mediated mechanisms or chromatin modification, but there is no current evidence of such activity for RNU6-904P[2][7].
